Great speakerphone on the base and handsets, but not loud enough through the handset to hear close to the ear. Purchased for an 89 year-old senior and he can hear it great via the speakerphones but not at all when the handset is to his ear. Would not purchase again., My previous Panasonic was like this one but larger and used really expensive batteries; so the first thing I liked about this one is that it uses 2 small rechargeable batteries that most likely will be less expensive to replace.
